We left France at noon, driving over El Pas de la Casa through Andorra to Catalunya in Spain. The pass at 2408 meters altitude is high, even by Swiss standards.
Andorra reminds very much of Switzerland though it’s even smaller and the mountains aren’t as high. It’s touristically oriented, the road is lined by ski hotels, and its banks attract foreign money. Also, gasoline prices are incredibly cheap, even cheaper than in Switzerland which is particularly obvious if you arrive from France. The comparison also exists in dramatic literature: Andorra is a substitute for Switzerland in Max Frisch’s play Andorra.
