The Mountain Gorillas of the Virungas

The Virunga volcano mountains in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are home to mountain gorillas. Mountain gorillas live in groups of usually one silverback leader, and a number of females, and babys. Silverback gorillas can reach a height of more than two meters and a weight of more than 200 kilograms. Mountain gorilla are an endangered species due to habitat loss, poaching, disease, and war.

Mountain gorilla living in the National Park in the Rwanda Congo border region are on the Red List of Endangered Species due to habitat loss, poaching, disease, and war. Mountain gorillas live in groups of one adult male, the silverback, and a number of females. Silverback gorillas can reach a height of more than two meters and a weight of more than 200 kilograms.

Last Sunday morning I browsed through SebastiĂŁo Salgado’s wonderful book ‘Africa’ and discovered a photo of «my» mountain gorilla Agashya in Rwanda. Agate is a silverback mountain gorilla in Rwanda. Mountain gorillas live in groups of one adult male, the silverback, and a number of females. Silverback gorilla can reach a height of more than 2 meters and a weight of more than 200 kilograms.

The United Nations headquarters in New York was recently lit up in a call for action to protect the world’s ecosystems and endangered species. The Oceanic Preservation Society – known for the Academy Award-winning documentary The Cove – also chose one of my photos for projection. The Golden Monkeys of the Virunga Mountains

Golden Monkeys live in the bamboo forest of the Virunga volcanic mountains of Central Africa (Rwanda, Uganda, and eastern Democratic Republic of Congo). The primates live in groups of up to 30 individuals. They eat leaves and fruit – and they love potatoes as we were able to observe.
